Seattle Women in Black is in its 7th year of vigils at Westlake. We stand every Thursday, rain or

shine, from 5-6 p.m.

 

Please join us this Thursday, 8/28/08, 5-6 PM. We will vigil, as usual, at Westlake Plaza.


Following you will find a list of UPCOMING EVENTS with a focus on Afghanistan, Iraq,

Israel/Palestine or the local homeless community. Please also note the list of regional Women in

Black vigils after this week's calendar. We encourage you to find an event that fits your

location, schedule, and interests, and JOIN IN! It is only when all of us join together to take

action at the grass roots level that we will reclaim our democracy and end the violence. TAG,

YOU'RE IT!

August 25, 7-9 PM GI COFFEEHOUSE FUNDRAISER

This is a project to raise funds to open a coffee house within a stone's throw of the gates of

Fort Lewis. Iraq Veterans Against the War IVAW and Veterans for Peace VFP as well as the Social

Justice Chair for the Unitarian Church in Olympia are working on this. The coffee house will be

a meeting place for soldiers to learn about their rights and about the movement. There will be a

speaker, Todd Ensign, to discuss this project and raise funds. A $10 donation will be requested.

August 29, 4 PM ORGANIZING RALLY FOR HOMELESS WOMEN’S SHELTER

It is high time homeless people get help, not harassment. Practical and realistic help - a stable place

where all who need a safe place to stay will be welcome. We plan to make it a reality.

September 6, 7:00 PM LECTURE: "9/11: AN INSIDE JOB?" - DR. PAUL ZAREMBKA

Dr. Paul Zarembka, editor of the groundbreaking book "The Hidden History of 9/11," now out in

paperback from Seven Stories Press. Admission is free but donations are encouraged.

September 20 All Day NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION: A MILLION DOORS FOR PEACE

Be part of one of the most ambitious and innovative anti-war activities to date!

United for Peace and Justice is partnering with US Action/True Majority, Win Without War, and other

organizations to make this day the biggest peace action of 2008. Volunteer doorknockers will ask

people to sign an antiwar petition directed to Congress. Our message: End this immoral war, bring our

troops home, and invest in America's future. In addition, we will encourage people to join local

anti-war groups, engage in voter education work, and become a part of the organized antiwar movement in their area.

is a necessary tool to break down cultural barriers and potentially reduce conflict in our world€”

now more than ever. A Rick Steves public television special on Iran is slated to premiere across
